Why Consider Contact Lenses Fittings

Patients may desire contact lens fittings for vision correction for several reasons: freedom from heavy and annoying spectacle frames, better vision correction compared to their glasses, the ability to wear non-prescription sunglasses and sporting gear.  Contacts can give you the convenience of not having to always find your glasses when you need to perform specific visual tasks.  Patients with very high prescriptions and/or high Astigmatism often have difficulty with heavy thick spectacle lenses and the sub-par vision they can produce.  Contact lenses can give you better visual acuity and comfort versus glasses in many cases.  Advancements in contact lenses have allowed experts in the field, such as Dr. Stelzer, to correct all kinds of vision problems including: Nearsightedness, Farsightedness, Astigmatism, Presbyopia and any combination of these.   If you have been considering contacts, give them a try.  Most of our patients are able to wear contact lenses in some form or another.  They can provide you with the visual freedom glasses can’t.

Dr. Stelzer and his eye care team can recommend the best contact lenses for you based on a comprehensive eye examination, corneal shape analysis and a customized lens fitting.  We review all visual demands of each patient for both work and leisure activities, then create a personalized contact lens plan.  There are a multitude of lens options and it’s important to have expert analysis of your needs and the advantages and disadvantages of each lens.  We have honed our specialized fitting evaluations so that you will receive the best lenses for your specific needs.  We guarantee it.

Soft Contact Lens Fittings

Soft contact lenses are usually the comfortable lenses and easiest to learn how to insert and remove from the eye.  Soft lenses must be discarded and replaced at certain specific intervals depending on the design.  Soft lenses are often recommended for sports and active patients because of their comfort and their unlikeliness to dislodge with physical activity.  These lenses usually provide excellent correction for almost any patient's prescription, including Astigmatism and high near and farsightedness.  The advancements in state-of-the art designs of new lenses and materials like silicone hydrogel have significantly improved the comfort, vision and safety of soft contact lenses.  These lens now allow more oxygen to the eye, reducing the risk of Hypoxia and increasing the comfort and wear time.  Our patients find it very easy to wear soft lenses comfortably for a multitude of activities for extended periods of time with great vision.  We are experts at fitting every type of soft contact lens.  Proper care and wear will result in the best outcomes with all lenses.

Gas Permeable Contact Lens Fittings

Made of more rigid plastic plastics, gas permeable contact lenses can offer extremely sharp vision if fit correctly and correct almost all prescription types.  They are usually more durable and longer lasting than soft contact lenses.  Some patients find them easier to insert and care for, but they require a much longer adaptation period and early on may cause some sensation in the eye.  These lens require consistent wear schedules increase adaptation.   We require all patients to trial and adapt to new lenses before we finalize any contact lens fittings prescription.

Multifocal Contact Lens Fittings and Monovision

Advancements have been made in both soft contact lens and Gas-Permeable contact lens.  One of the most exciting developments is multifocal contact lens designs.  These new lens designs offer patients both distance and near vision correction similar to a pair of bifocal or progressive eye glasses.  Similar results can be achieved with Monovision correction.   If you have both near and far vision difficulties, please contact us as we have so many options to offer our patients at South Beach Vision.  We will find the right lens for you and your specific needs.

Colour Contact Lens Fittings

Color contacts lenses allow patients the ability to enhance or even change their eye color.  This is especially fun for costumes and special effects.  They are offered in a wide range of colors for both light and dark colored eyes.

Silicone Hydrogel Contact Lens Fittings

Silicone Hydrogel contact lenses are some of the newest soft contact lenses on the market.  They much have higher oxygen permeability than older soft lens designs and have an increased safety profile for the eye.  These are similar to the safety of gas permeable lenses, but are much more comfortable and easier to adapt to when fitted.

Regardless of the type of contact lenses you wear currently, an annual comprehensive eye exam and lens fitting is required to ensure the evaluation of your eye health and lens performance.   Schedule an appointment for an expert assessment and fitting at South Beach Vision.
